About London Northwestern Railway

The London Northwestern Railway (LNWR, L&NWR) was a British railway company between 1846 and 1922, operated by West Midlands Trains, part of the transport company Averio. In the late 19th century, the L&NWR was the largest joint stock company in the United Kingdom. In 1923 it became a component of the London, Midland and Scottish (LMS) Railway and in 1948 became the London Midland Region of British Railways. The LNWR was effectively the ancestor of today's West Coast Mainline. Abellio Transport Holdings is an international transport group that also operates the Greater Anglia Railway and East Midlands Railway franchises, as well as the MerseyRail concession in the United Kingdom. On certain busier routes, it may be possible to opt for a slower or connecting train.
